This Bowl came from an old white paper bark birch tree.  The tree limb was dead and beginning to decay I tossed it under my back yard deck for about a year and then cut it up into sections with a chainsaw.  The beautiful black lines throughout the bowl are called 'Spalting' they are caused by a the wood decaying.  It's not squishy like a rotten log you'd find the the forest, but it was on that path.  The core of the tree and the spalting give this bowl a really cool sun burst effect.

This bowl was created by gluing up layers of black walnut and quilted maple.  It's roughly 9 1/4" across and 4 1/2" tall.
